After studying trumpet at the Royal Northern College of Music in England, under Howard Snell, Allan started on a freelance career, playing with some of Great Britain’s leading orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra.

He is now employed as a member of the trumpet section of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Norway. As a conductor Allan has gained a reputation as one of Europe’s best band conductors, leading such bands, as Brighouse and Rastrick, Grimethorpe Colliery and Stavanger brass band to many critically acclaimed competition and concert successes. He is also in great demand as a teacher in Norway, England and the Continent. In 2006 Allan was voted `Conductor of the Year` on the popular internet site 4barsrest.

In recent years, Allan has expanded his conducting experience to include professional symphony orchestras notably the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in many of his own theatre productions. Here he also produces,often writes and presents this very popular series of family orientated concerts. The concerts come in the form of a package with arrangements, manuscript, stage and lighting directions all ready. Perfect for any overworked orchestra administration. Allan has, in the space of the last few seasons, conducted a wide variety of musical styles. From a full programme of music to celebrate the anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to a programme of contemporary music with composers John Adams and Michæl Doherty featured. Light classics and the many arrangements featured in Allan`s productions have provided him with a great base from which to expand his repertoire. Many years as a professional player gives him a great understanding of the workings of an orchestra and the usual limited rehearsal time associated with these events suits Allan`s effective and efficient way of working.
