Family concerts season 2002/2003

The Story of Peter Tchaikovsky.
Again Minken Fosheim was joined by her
friend Rosenstjert and kept a full Grieghall spellbound while both related the life and music of Peter Tchaikovsky.

The von Trapp Family.
We had been to the palace in Oslo in order to persuade Princess Martha Louise to present this programme. She agreed and contracts were duly signed. However, shortly before she should appear she became ill. Frantic efforts to find a replacement resulted in Asgeir Borgermoen, who, needless to say, did a fantastic job.

Obviously some music from `The Sound of Music` but also Bach, Johan Strauss and Mendelson were represented. Lots of children from local choirs and a group of 7 soloists. They escaped (through the grieghall) from Nazi Austria against a backdrop of sirens and German band music to start their new life in America. The whole show was conducted by Andrew Litton.

Communism for Kids.
Featuring dance group The New Carte Blanche, presented by Jarle Solheim and conducted by Allan Withington.
The show piece of this concert was a specially choreographed ballett, by Duncan Macfarline, to the music of John Adams, The Chairman Dances. Slightly political and examined language (body, verbal and audio) of four different countries. America, Cuba, China and Russia. How they compared and how they differed. Extremely interesting.

Limericks and Lord of the Dance.
We had to bring back the Irish dancers (SIAMSA). The show was presented by Per Jon Odeen (with some help from the audience) and conducted by Allan Withington. We organised a limerick competition, through `Bergens Tidende` where the authors of the 6 best limericks were asked to introduce a part of the programme. Music included Percy Granger`s Molly on the Shore and from the dance show `Lord of the Dance`.
